DEWA to showcase smart initiatives at GITEX 2014

Dubai utility to report on progress along road to Smart City

GITEX 2014, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) will showcase its latest smart services and initiatives at GITEX Technology Week 2014, to be held from 12 to 16 October at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

The smart technology is a key part of the utility's ongoing efforts to support the Smart City programme initiated by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

DEWA said its smart initiatives are also in line with its vision to "become a sustainable world-class utility and reinforce its leading position in the field of smart services".

As part of DEWA's GITEX participation, its customers can enter a daily raffle draw to win prizes by conducting selected transactions through the utility's smart application from August to October 2014. These include final invoice requests (Move-out), service requests (Move-in), automatic payment activations (Auto Pay) and Pay on Behalf of a Friend services.

At DEWA's GITEX stand, visitors can learn about a number of projects, including a green scheme to encourage households and building owners to install photovoltaic solar panels to generate electricity. Another project covers the installation of smart meters and applications that will allow customers to monitor electricity and water consumption directly through their smart devices or computers.

A further initiative to be showcased at the ICT trade show involves the infrastructure for electric-vehicle-charging stations, another eco-friendly project designed to decrease air pollution.

"We are looking forward to our active participation at GITEX 2014, which will provide a strong platform to showcase our latest smart services and technical achievements that contribute significantly to meeting the needs of our customers in line with the Smart Dubai strategy," said Moza Al Akraf, acting CIO and VP of IT at DEWA.

"Our aim is to be closer to our customers through various smart services and initiatives that meet their daily needs and expectations. Over the past years, we have achieved a paradigm shift in our electronic and smart services, which save customers' time and efforts."
