du’s latest outlet awarded UAE’s greenest telecom retail store
Mirdiff City Centre branch is second of du’s stores to be awarded LEED Platinum certificate
Telecoms operator du has been awarded a LEED Platinum certification for its latest signature shop in Mirdiff City Centre making it the UAE's greenest telecom retail outlet.
The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certificate is awarded to buildings that employ "best-in-class building strategies and practices", this is du's second shop to be given the award.
Abdulhadi Alalyak, vice president, asset management and corporate administration, du, said: "Our newest du Shop is the embodiment of our commitment to adding life to life through services that bring more convenience, while adhering to our sustainability values. It sets an example of the possibilities of bringing sustainability into retail, in ways that will add more value by improving customer experience. The launch of our second LEED Platinum certified Shop is in line with our support of the UAE leadership's vision of a more sustainable future for the UAE."
Features in the shop's design include: 100% lights controlled by motion sensors; 100% energy star rated equipment; FSC certified new wood; 89% construction waste was saved from being diverted to landfill; 40.3% furniture and furnishings are re-used; lighting power reduced by 45.6%; 18.6% recycled materials; 30.3% regional materials; indoor air quality monitoring system; high quality indoor environment for occupants using low-emitting adhesives, paints, flooring and wood; HVAC equipment are efficient with appropriate zoning and controls; and Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) of 95,536 KWh provided for green power.
