Sony whets gamers’ appetites at E3
Console vendor teases PS4 thumb-bandits with forthcoming titles
PlayStation maker Sony Computer Entertainment Inc (SCE) has unveiled a host of new offerings and partner titles for the PlayStation 4 console at its annual E3 press conference, including the ambitious Destiny project from Halo makers Bungie in collaboration with Activision; Uncharted 4: A Thief's End from Naughty Dog; Far Cry 4 from Ubisoft; Batman: Arkham Knight from Rocksteady and Warner Bros Interactive; The Order: 1886 from Ready at Dawn; and No Man's Sky by Hello Games.
Also announced was a console pack that will bundle Destiny with a Glacier White PS4.
The PS4 has now topped 7m units in worldwide shipments, beating SCE quarterly targets and outselling its main rival, Microsoft's Xbox One.
Other titles announced included Bloodborne, a new IP from critically acclaimed game director, Hidetaka Miyazaki, who helmed Demon's Souls and Dark Souls. LittleBigPlanet 3 and inFAMOUS First Light are also in development.
SCE also mentioned Entwined, a fresh title from Pixelopus, a small team within San Mateo Studio composed of recent graduates from academic programmes, such as Carnegie Mellon's Entertainment Technology Centre and San Jose State's Animation Programme.
"PS4 is the number-one selling next-generation console and the announcements we have made at E3 highlight our commitment to maximising the momentum we currently have," said Jim Ryan, president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe.
"Content is at the heart of the PlayStation ecosystem and we have showcased just some of the distinctive, fun and immersive experiences we have coming up. Whether it is blockbuster games, such as Destiny, or more intimate and unique experiences, such as Entwined, we have something for everyone."
