Uber slashes minimum fare for Dubai summer
New fare structure decreases the rate up to 40% for some shorter distances, Uber said
The taxi-hailing smartphone app Uber has announced a lower minimum fare in Dubai for the summer months.
The new fare structure decreases the rate up to 40% for some shorter distances, Uber said in a statement. For example, the new fare lowers the rate of Downtown Dubai to DIFC from around Dh35 to Dh20, or Dubai Marina to Downtown Dubai from around Dh80 to Dh70.
"The win for riders is obvious: lower fares make Uber more accessible to more people when they need it the most, especially in the hot summer months when people would like to spend as little time as possible outside, or during Ramadan to increase safety on the roads," said JP Mondalek, General Manager for Uber Dubai.
"The win is also two-fold - as we've seen in other cities, lower fares have resulted in greater business for the transportation providers we partner with. We will continue to monitor this marketplace to ensure that we are offering the Dubai community more choice and more value when it comes to their daily transportation needs."
The app, available in nearly 120 cities worldwide, works with limousine companies to provide licensed drivers with the ability to connect with passengers.
Once a user makes a request, he or she is able to see the name, photo and licence plate of the driver that will be picking him or her up, as well as the driver's exact location on the map.
