Trend Micro this week announced upgrades to its Worry-Free Business Security solution, which is aimed at providing enterprise-grade security to small and medium-sized businesses, the vendor said.

Version 9.0 of the solution addresses and mitigates threats across endpoints, from desktops to mobile, Trend Micro said. The security vendor also claimed that Worry-Free was the only small business solution available worldwide to provide "comprehensive" user protection with integrated mobile device security and the option of cloud management.

"Since small businesses are experiencing a surge in BYOD [bring your own device], Trend Micro is committed to providing solutions with dynamic, yet affordable, security capabilities that deliver greater functionality and ease-of-use across their operation," said Eric Skinner, vice president, solutions marketing, Trend Micro.

"With integrated mobile device protection, Worry-Free Business Security provides a comprehensive approach to security, whether in the office or on-the-go. We've also kept our channel partners in mind with a cloud-based management tool that makes it easier and more cost-effective to provide security support for their customers."

Version 9.0 of the solution includes integration with Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync; enhanced security policies including remote wipe and device access control; and support for Windows 8.1, Microsoft Exchange 2013, and improved security for Mac platforms. Trend Micro also claimed that the new solution offered universal performance improvements, which decrease scan and installation times.

According to its announcement, Trend Micro is targeting the solution specifically at small businesses wrestling with BYOD woes. The vendor cited IDC research that showed, from 2012 to 2013, the use of BYOD smartphones in United States small businesses increased from 53% to 88%. During the same period, BYOD tablet usage increased from 30% to 56%, Trend Micro added.

To address the risks associated with BYOD, Trend Micro said that Worry-Free 9.0's new features would provide simplified mobile device management, and allow organisations to securely remove all data from BYOD devices in the event of a theft or data breach.
