ManageEngine launches 3D modeling tool for data centres
RackBuilder Plus billed as ‘industry-first’ solution for real-time device visualisation
Real-time IT management company ManageEngine today launched RackBuilder Plus, billed as "easy-to-use, 3D visual modeling software for large enterprises and data centres".
"With Rack Builder Plus, IT and data centre admins save time and improve facilities management with a complete inventory of the data centre, including all the relationship details between racks, floors and devices," the company said in a statement.
"In an industry-first combination, RackBuilder Plus also offers real-time monitoring of data centre devices."
As more enterprises run multiple data centres for load sharing and redundancy, admins find it difficult to gain clear overall visibility into their data centres, ManageEngine argues. Conventional data centre documentation tools such as Excel and Visio do not provide the most dynamic, realistic view of the data centre and admins have to sift through multiple pages of documents to trace a particular device that has to be removed from the rack for maintenance.
"A life-like realistic view of the data centre is necessary for gaining more visibility and managing it better," said Dev Anand, director of product management at ManageEngine. "With RackBuilder Plus, data centre admins can create an exact replica of the data centre floor with all the racks and devices populated, in 3D. This makes it easy for them to quickly locate a device or a rack."
RackBuilder Plus offers a virtual builder that lets data centre admins create 3D views of racks and data centre floors. Admins just drag and drop devices onto the racks and then drag and drop the racks onto the floors. RackBuilder Plus combines 3D visual modeling with device monitoring to help admins identify the health status of the devices in real time.
The solution is also aimed at improving facilities management by making it easier for admins to identify free slots available in each rack as well as the rack space available on each floor. This is intended to help data centre staff visualise rack and floor utilisation and plan accordingly for future expansion. RackBuilder Plus also supports data migration from other data centre documentation tools such as Device42 and RackTables.
