Veeam-NetApp integration 'highly valuable'
Veeam solution to be integrated with NetApp SnapShot, SnapMirror and SnapVault
Veeam, a specialist in virtualised backup and recovery solutions, has partnered with NetApp to integrate its Backup & Replication solution with NetApp's SnapShot, SnapMirror and SnapVault.
According to Veeam's Doug Hazelman, vice president of product strategy, the partnership will provide value to anyone using NetApp storage on VMware.
"I see, as customers are more conscious about what we call the always-on data centre, with basically no tolerance for downtime, they are looking for ways to be able to fully leverage the technologies that they have," he told Network Middle East.
"When it comes to backup and recovery, NetApp has a great snapshot capability, and Veeam is really seen as the leader in terms of virtualisation backup and disaster recovery. Bringing all those things together, from a customer standpoint, it's really going to help them understand the true capabilities of the modern data centre."
NetApp's storage snapshots allow backups to take place during business hours without affecting virtual machines, allowing for a low recovery point objective. And the snapshots take up very little space.
While this is impressive, the integration of Veeam's solution, Backup & Replication, allows for a lowered recovery time objective, too. The solution's Explorer for Storage Snapshots capability provides item-level recovery from NetApp Snapshots. Indeed, Veeam claims that backups directly from storage snapshots can be completed 20 times faster than they can with competing solutions.
Existing NetApp customers will be able to download the compatible Veeam solution later this year, Hazelman said.
