Samsung announces regional launch of curved UHD TVs
Fresh form factor available across the region from May
Samsung Gulf Electronics today announced the launch of the world's first curved Ultra High Definition (UHD) TV.
Samsung blended its own curved TV design with proprietary UHD TV technology to build the models, which were developed with curvature of 4200R, which Samsung says is the optimal grade. Curved-screen TVs are aimed at creating a wider field of view with a panoramic effect.
Samsung's Curved TVs are augmented by its proprietary Auto Depth Enhancer, which automatically adjusts contrast in a bid to deliver "a greater sense of depth, giving a 3D effect without the need for glasses", according to Samsung.
Colour is further enhanced on these sets through Samsung's Pure Color technology, which is designed to reproduces tones with greater fidelity.
UHD upscaling is included on Samsung's entire range of UHD TVs, which means that pictures that do not come from a UHD source will still be enhanced. The proprietary technology converts Full HD, HD and lower-resolution sources to "nearly-UHD clarity", according to Samsung. This is achieved through a four-step process: signal analysis, noise reduction, detail analysis and upscaling. UHD Dimming technology also helps to further optimise picture quality by processing each block of a picture and delivering deeper blacks and improved contrast.
"At Samsung, we understand that the home entertainment experience is valued highly by our customers across the region, and as such we are excited to introduce them to an unparalleled viewing experience, never seen before", said Vinod Nair, general manager, TVs, Samsung Gulf Electronics.
"Our new lineup of curved and UHD TVs brings together exceptional design and picture quality, offering an immersive experience like no other."
Samsung's Curved UHD range will be available from May onwards through major retail outlets across the region in the following sizes: 105-inch, 78-inch, 65-inch and 55-inch. Samsung's latest models from its flat UHD lineup will be available in five screen sizes: 65-inch, 60-inch, 55-inch and 48-inch.
