DCG symposium with Dubai-based disties on tonight
Local IT trade association moves to promote ethical business conduct in Dubai channel
The Dubai Computer Group (DCG) has confirmed that the first DCG-Distie symposium between its board members and Dubai-based IT distributors will go ahead as planned this evening.
The roundtable discussion, which will be held at Captial Club, Gate Village in DIFC, has been sponsored by Khalaf Al Otaiba, chairman DCG and Al Otaiba Group of companies and aims to promote ethical business conduct in the Dubai channel. In addition, the DCG said it wants to forge close cooperation between the association and the distributor community in Dubai.
According to a statement by the DCG, distributors have been asked to send their heads of business and finance to attend this evening's roundtable discussion.
Mahesh Thakore, coordinator at DCG, said the agenda will address among other things, how the local channel can manage the IT downslide and cooperate on the challenges of convergence, look at ways the DCG as a recognised local association under the Dubai Chamber of Commerce can seek further support from authorities and how to extend participation by getting more support from all involved in the Dubai IT channel.
Thakore added that other issues on the agenda include: how the channel can work together to address issues relating to counterfeit goods, price undercutting and credit security. He added that the DCG will also explore ways on how it can strengthen its partnership with all Dubai-based distributors to promote ethical standards of doing business by all IT resellers operating in the Dubai channel.
Vasant Menghani, head of business at DCG and CEO at Touchmate, said the association is delighted to have taken the first initiative in creating a mutually beneficial cooperation with Dubai-based distributors. "I want to urge all DCG members that they need to embrace these initiatives if the Dubai channel is to move forward," he said.
Menghani said this is the first step in many schemes currently being outlined that are aimed at forging close ties with the IT distribution community in Dubai.
