Asbis to build mobility business in KSA
Distributors moves to consolidate mobile solutions business in the Kingdom
Regional distributor Asbis Middle East has revealed that it will be upping channel activities for its mobile business in Saudi Arabia.
The move according to the company, is aimed at helping resellers to take advantage of the convergence between IT and the telecoms sector, in particular tablets and smartphones.
The distributor has broadened its horizons with a comprehensive mobile solutions offering that includes tablets, smartphones, smart healthcare and smart learning solutions for the education sector.
Asbis said the company has experienced rapid growth in the mobile sector in KSA and across the region with smartphones and tablets, the most sought after products by consumers and businesses.
Hesham Tantawi, VP Middle East Turkey and Africa (META) at Asbis, said in an interview with Channel Middle East, that the company started building its mobile solutions business 24 months ago. "We have been investing in mobility solutions and the investment has focused on enhancing the retail strategy and strengthening the internal retail teams to support the fast growing retail business not only in Saudi Arabia, but the Middle East and Africa region," he said.
Tantawi said the Saudi Arabia market is by far the biggest in the GCC region and its an important one for the company and its channel ecosystem. He explained that Asbis' mobile strategy is centred on Prestigio, the company's mobile flagship brand. "We want to improve our sales and solutions offering in this segment by upping our initiatives in terms of market development, partner training and overall investment in solutions selling," he said.
He said the company has since moved to re-align its Saudi Arabia team to ensure that it's able to render support and provide the necessary resources for partners to grow their businesses in that market.
"We have already started rolling out programmes for our partners in Saudi Arabia that will help them to embrace solutions selling in the mobile segment going forward," he said.
He said Asbis' core initiatives and channel programmes in Saudi Arabia have been tailored to help partners to develop their business and expertise in providing mobile solutions for the education, healthcare and other commercial sectors. "It is clear that the smartphone and tablet market in the Middle East is saturated with most low-end, cheap devices being sold in the market," he remarked.
Tantawi said Asbis is preparing partners for the next wave of the mobility evolution and that's solutions selling in the enterprise. "There is a concerted effort by governments in the GCC to rollout smart cities, smart learning and smart healthcare projects. These projects are expected to create more opportunities for the mobile segment as services will be accessed using mobile platforms. What we are doing is helping our partners to prepare so that they will be able to offer integrated mobile solutions from Asbis," he said.
Tantawi added that as the market for tablets and smartphone reaches saturation, some low quality, cheap tablet and smartphone brands in the market will find it hard to compete.
