Metra Computer acquires EMPA
EMPA will continue to serve the regional channel as a Metra Computer Group subsidiary.

Egypt-based Metra Computer Group has acquired specialist volume distributor EMPA Middle East for an undisclosed amount.

The deal, which was concluded in December 2013, will see EMPA continue to operate in the IT distribution sector in the Middle East as a subsidiary of Metra Computer Group.

Zaeem Ahmed, group marketing manager at Metra Computer Group, confirmed in an interview with Channel Middle East that EMPA is now a wholly owned company of Metra Computer Group and will continue to serve the regional channel in the volume and value space as a separate entity. "The EMPA brand will be retained and the company will continue to be in business," he said.

Ahmed said the two entities will continue to operate independently but what has been integrated is the back office systems. He added that the value business teams for both entities have also been unified and will be headed by Basel Shalaby as head of this business division going forward and will report to Mohamed Eissa, executive vice president, Metra Computer Group.

Ahmed explained that Houssam Mobied, CEO of EMPA will continue at the company and will lead the volume business in the region. "With the merger, we have extended our brands in the group to over 40 in the Middle East," he said. "We are already finalising plans on how we will be addressing our partners in the region with an expanded product and services offering," he said.

In the last fiscal year, EMPA did $106m in sales and has over the last three years, been transitioning from a specialist components supplier to a value-added distributor of storage, mobility, security and networking solutions.
