DCG to celebrate decennial year with cricket event
Local IT body plans to attract new members at one-day cricket tournament
As part of the decennial year celebrations, the Dubai Computer Group (DCG) has revealed that it's hosting a one-day cricket tournament to be held on 29 November, 2013 at Dubai's United Pro Sports arena.
The local IT trade industry association, which comes under the umbrella of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, says hosting this event as part of the tenth anniversary celebrations of DCG will play a crucial role in raising awareness around the association's activities and agenda in the Dubai channel.
Dubbed the "DCG-WD Cricket League 2013", the tournament has been designed with the aim of unifying computer business entrepreneurs in Dubai. The event, which is co-hosted by DCG and storage solutions vendor WD, will see a total of 12 companies from the vendor, distributor and reseller community participate.
According to DCG, four groups have been formed with three teams in each group. Prizes for the winning team include a trophy and gold medals for team members, while the runner-up will receive a trophy and silver medals for team members. DCG says there will be individual prizes for 'Best Bowler and Best Batsman'.
The association says it received overwhelming response for the cricket tournament and it's hoping to turn it into an annual event.
Shailendra Rughwani, president, DCG, said hosting the event is another way of thanking the local IT businesses for supporting the association from its inception. "We would like to thank the DCG working committee, WD and all members for their collective support for this cricket initiative.
"WD is one of the world's leading storage providers and one of our focuses is to build lasting relationships with partners in every region. Local events such as this give us a way to further bond with regional stakeholders from a more personal standpoint," said Mohammed Owais, sales director, Middle East and Africa at WD.
Suchit Kumar, DCG working committee member added that the cricket event will open opportunities for the organisation to reach out to new members.
The DCG also revealed that it had opened the nomination process for all its registered members and will be conducting elections for the new 12-seat board membership in December 2013.
