BT dismisses rumours of Bahrain regional HQ
British operator has no plans to establish regional HQ in Bahrain
The UK's BT Group has dismissed reports that it was planning to establish a regional headquarters in Bahrain to service the MENA region.
The reports appeared in local media after a meeting between members of BT Group's Middle East team and Bahrain TRA to discuss new services.
"There has been a misunderstanding in reporting - our local team was meeting with the TRA in Bahrain to discuss a new service for the region, not regional headquarters. There are no plans to relocate to Bahrain," a spokesperson for BT Group told CommsMEA.
Bahrain's Minister of State for Communications, HE Sheikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, also issued a statement dismissing the reports as false.
"Statements regarding British Telecom having selected the Kingdom of Bahrain as their MENA Headquarters are false. British Telecom has discussed the matter of establishing their regional IP Exchange in Bahrain, but has not made any decision on the matter," he said.
BT Group's main office for the Middle East is located in Dubai.
