R&M launches Venus SCM distributor boxes
Solution to address Middle East interest in FTTH offerings
Swiss structured-cabling specialist R&M has launched a new range of distributor boxes for fibre optics.
The Venus SCM boxes expand R&M's Fibre to the Home (FTTH) range, which consists of standard cabling solutions for all network levels up to FTTH.
"Middle East enterprises and service providers today ask how all their data, signals, pictures, movies, music and apps will be transmitted at high speed and with high reliability," said Shibu Vahid, head of technical operations, R&M Middle East, Turkey & Africa.
"Full-scale fibre optic networks are what is required to meet ever-growing data transmission demands as only they provide the necessary data throughput and transmission speeds for all subscribers in a network. Fibre optics have become the backbone of modern networks and at R&M, we are constantly pushing the barriers of this technology,"
The new Venus SCM boxes can be fitted or retrofitted on site and can serve as platforms for splice and splitter cabling as well as for patch and CWDM cabling. Single Circuit Management (SCM) is an advancement that enables individual fibres and subscribers to be managed using scalable modular tray technology. With SCM trays, as many as 72 subscribers can be separated in a single box. The inserts for the patch area are also quick to install in a rapid mounting procedure and can be retrofitted successively.
The Venus SCM boxes are available in three sizes with packing density ranges from 144 to 864 splice connections or twelve to 192 patch connections. The splice area is equipped with different SCM trays for fibre management, which can be installed and removed. Using the Venus SCM boxes, network operators can multiply the utility of their networks, according to R&M. They can also build up point-to-multipoint infrastructures (P2MP) or increase the density of connections in a building or supply area. The Venus SCM boxes are also suitable for loop cabling.
The distributor housings can accommodate "all common types of cable on the market", according to R&M, depending on the application involved: subscriber, loose-tube, mini and micro cables as well as patch cords. Cable guidance in the housing ensures a gentle bending radius and allows "generous cable and fibre management with integrated reserves". The Venus housings are made of ASA plastic and are suitable for use indoors and outdoors and are mountable on masts or facades. According to R&M, they meet the requirements of ingress protection classes IP43 and IP54.
