Brocade launches advanced SAN management solution
Suite of offerings extends network visibility for admins
Brocade this week unveiled enhancements to its Brocade Fabric Vision hardware and software solution for Storage Area Networks (SANs) that include a Monitoring and Alerting Policy Suite (MAPS) and Flow Vision, which offers the ability to non-disruptively identify, monitor and analyse specific application and data flows in fibre-channel fabrics to "maximise performance, optimise resources and avoid congestion".
"Brocade's Fabric Vision technology is the essential backbone of large-scale data centre SANs, which dramatically simplifies their management while providing a reliable, scalable, high-performance foundation for cloud and highly virtualised environments," said Sufian Dweik, regional director MEMA at Brocade Communications.
"One of the grievances we most commonly hear when speaking to data centre administrators in the Middle East is that they lack visibility into their networks, which makes troubleshooting a challenge. The Fabric Vision solution provides unprecedented visibility and insight across the storage network. This helps network managers increase uptime, optimise application performance and drive down operational costs."
According to a report by Research and Markets, the total data centre networking market is expected to grow from $12.49bn in 2013 to $21.85bn by 2018, at an estimated Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 11.8% in the same period. This report outlined "automation, visibility and security controls" as the key areas of focus for data centre restructuring to meet the growing demands of business applications. Brocade's Fabric Vision technology aims to enable automation to simplify day-to-day SAN management tasks.
The newly unveiled MAPS feature is a policy-based monitoring and alerting solution that proactively monitors the health and performance of the SAN infrastructure to help ensure application uptime and availability. Administrators can configure MAPS policies across an entire fabric or multiple fabrics, and the health report for each switch, along with details on out-of-policy conditions, is displayed via an integrated dashboard.
Flow Vision provides broad visibility into flows in the fabric, and offers the ability to automatically detect flows, non-disruptively monitor flow performance, and obtain statistics associated with specific flows.
"When used in conjunction with MAPS and Brocade Network Advisor, Flow Vision enables proactive application management," Brocade said.
"Together, MAPS, Flow Vision and Brocade Network Advisor provide a fabric-wide, threshold-based monitoring and alerting solution that enables proactive management to improve availability while dramatically simplifying SAN administration and reducing operational costs."
