ICT Fund, an initiative by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), has announced its participation in this year’s Gitex Technology Week. At the event, ICT Fund is set to announce details on a range of projects that support ICT research and development in the UAE. ICT Fund’s participation in GITEX 2013 is different from previous years, it says.

It has been attracting an increasing number of projects that it can support and finance. The target goals of the ICT Fund are to develop the ICT industry, foster R&D, encourage capacity building and enhance education and training in the field of ICT.

In addition, the ICT Fund will share updates on new projects it is supporting within the Arabic digital content initiative. The ICT Fund has dedicated AED 25 million over the next five years to support the ‘Arabic Digital Content’ initiative. The initiative was launched recently by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The entity will also share updates on its 2014 Betha student scholarship program. This is an initiative to support and sponsor students who excel in key scientific subjects. The initiative comes as a by-product of the growing demand for UAE national human resources specialised in the telecoms sector and related fields.

Omar Mohammed Al Mahmoud, Acting Chief Executive Officer of ICT Fund says:  “We look at Gitex Technology Week as being more than just an exhibition; it’s a platform for creativity and innovation in technology. This year we will announce a range of projects that support our research and development pillar along with initiatives that support the growth of Arabic digital content and the latest updates on the Betha scholarship program.”
