Brocade, VMware develop SAN visibility solution
Companies develop Brocade SAN Analytics Management Pack
Brocade has collaborated with VMware to extend the visibility and monitoring capabilities of the VMware vCentre Operations Management Suite into the Storage Area Networking (SAN) layer with the development of the Brocade SAN Analytics Management Pack.
"With the Brocade SAN Analytics Management Pack for VMware vCentre Operations Management Suite, customers can benefit from visibility that extends into the storage subsystem, simplified management and rapid root cause detection, as well as optimal performance of workloads running in their virtual environments," said Ramin Sayar, senior vice president and general manager, Cloud Management, VMware.
Designed for SANs deployed in highly virtualised environments, the solution is designed to enable real-time reporting on the performance of the network and provides information on a number of key metrics through the vCentre Operations Management Suite.
"SAN is the de-facto standard for data centers and enterprises in the Middle East are well versed with this technology. With increased server virtualisation however there is an additional complexity brought into the mix and unless integrated properly with the SAN, it will result in degraded application performance. For every physical server, there are multiple virtual servers that are now dependent on the capabilities of the SAN. This makes monitoring SAN performance and proactively identifying potential network bottlenecks absolutely essential," said Sufian Dweik, regional director, MEMA at Brocade Communications.
In March this year, Brocade launched its Brocade Fabric Vision technology which serves as the foundation for the Brocade SAN Analytics integration into vCentre Operations Management Suite. As the enabling technology for the Brocade SAN Analytics Management Pack, Brocade Fabric Vision features utilised for vCentre Operations Management Suite analytics are: Easy to use, policy-based threshold monitoring and alerting suite that proactively monitors the health and performance of the SAN infrastructure to help ensure application uptime and availability; Automated network traffic congestion detection in the fabric and correlation with hosts and applications impacted by a bottlenecked SAN port.
"Our customers depend on our solutions and support to store their critical data in highly virtualised and cloud-optimised data centres. We have been working closely with the OpenStack Foundation to develop open source software that simplifies the management of fiber channel networks in cloud environments. This will ensure investment protection and network readiness as enterprises migrate even their mission-critical applications to the cloud," said Dweik.
