The handset runs on a 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor and packs a modest 512MB of RAM with 8GB of internal storage and support for up to 64GB through SD card.

The display is a 4.7-inch, 201ppi WVGA screen with sunlight readability enhancement, high brightness mode, colour enhancement and "super-sensitive touch".

The main camera is 5MP with autofocus, LED flash and support for 1080p video at 30fps; also included is a VGA front-facing camera.

It also folds in features from the recently announced flagship Nokia Lumia 1020. These include a range of now-standard camera applications like Nokia Smart Camera, which allows the removal of unwanted objects from capture images, and Nokia Cinemagraph, which turns photos into filmstrip-style slideshows.

"With our largest smartphone screen to date, the Nokia Lumia 625 is a perfect example of how Nokia is delivering leading smartphone innovation and experiences at every price point," said Jo Harlow, executive vice president, Nokia Smart Devices.

The handset is powered by the latest version of Windows Phone 8 and includes the Nokia Lumia Amber update, which includes the Glance feature, allowing the phone to be woken up with a double-tap, upon which it displays a list of missed notifications.

Live Tiles update direct to the home screen, and People Hub is included for social connectivity. Windows Phone 8 also includes Xbox Live, Microsoft Office, and 7GB of online SkyDrive storage.

Nokia Music provides unlimited streaming of "ad-free mixes without registration or subscription", according to Nokia, plus the ability to download mixes for listening offline. Nokia has also teamed with Coloud to create BOOM headphones and integrated microphone and buttons for voice calls and music control.

The Lumia 625 also offers Nokia's maps and location features from HERE, providing free maps, turn-by-turn navigation and public transport guidance.

The handset will be available in a range of colours including orange, yellow, bright green, white and black with an array of changeable shells. Nokia announced an estimated retail price of EUR220 before taxes and subsidies. This would be the equivalent of just under AED1,100, but no regional prices have been confirmed.
