Iraq's Korek Telecom hires NSN for network upgrade
Operator has also renewed its care and managed services contract with NSN
Iraqi operator, Korek Telecom, has selected vendor Nokia Siemens Networks to deploy advanced radio, microwave transmission and packet core network elements, and to expand its 2G network in Southern Iraq. The operator has also renewed its care and managed services contract with NSN.
NSN will deploy its Flexi Direct system, which simplifies network planning, lowers capital and operating costs for operators, and reduces data transmission delay.
As part of its radio network, NSN will provide its single RAN platform, which is based on its compact Flexi Multiradio base station, to support Korek's 2G and 3G networks and prepare for LTE.
As part of the core network NSN will also deploy its Liquid Core-based Evolved Packet Core platform, including Flexi Network Server and Flexi Network Gateway.
Nokia Siemens Networks' NetAct network management system will manage and optimise Korek Telecom's networks across all radio technologies. The vendor is providing full services, including network planning and optimisation, system integration, and network operation. The deal also includes network implementation, and care services including hardware, software and competence development services.
"We wanted to provide better Internet experience and improved voice call services for our customers in Iraq," said Ghada Gebara, CEO, Korek Telecom. "With Nokia Siemens Networks' advanced radio and core network technology, we will soon be able to introduce high-speed mobile broadband and enhanced voice services to our customers in southern Iraq."
