Stackable Gigabit switch range broadened with PoE+ models

Allied Telesis expands x510 switch series

Network infrastructure specialist Allied Telesis, Inc, this weekend announced the expansion of its x510 series of stackable Gigabit switches.

The range includes a number of security and resiliency features, coupled with features designed for ease of management. Two new Power over Ethernet Plus (PoE+) models, the AT-x510-28GPX and AT-x510-52GPX, each deliver "enough PoE+ to support the requirements of enterprise networks, including retail, government, education and healthcare", according to Allied Telesis Middle East (ATME).

With a choice of 24- or 48-Gigabit ports, and 10 Gigabit uplink ports, both PoE+ models can provide up to 370W of power. PoE+ supplies up to 30W per port, to support high-powered devices such as Pan/Tilt/Zoom video surveillance cameras and other PoE-powered devices such as wireless access points and IP phones.

PoE eliminates the need for power rewiring when moving or installing powered devices, and ATME argued that it "minimises the clutter of separate power supplies and adapters, for a more efficient and cost-effective work environment".

The x510 Series supports Allied Telesis Virtual Chassis Stacking (VCStack) of up to four units with 40Gbps stacking bandwidth. VCStack is designed for network resilience through attempted elimination of a single point of failure. The x510 Series also supports VCStack LD (Long Distance), which enables stacks to be created over long-distance fibre links, a feature geared towards distributed network environments.

"Another great advantage of the x510 Series is its upgradability from Layer 2+/basic Layer 3 functionality to full Layer 3," said Sabbahuddin Khan, regional manager, Allied Telesis.

"Customers can either purchase the product with the full Layer 3 premium license, or upgrade their devices in the future as their business and network requirements grow. This ability to increase the capability of existing products significantly increases ROI.

"Allied Telesis is pleased to expand our portfolio of PoE switches with the AT-x510-28GPX and AT-x510-52GPX, further empowering today's networks and supporting tomorrow's business growth."
