Omantel expands LTE coverage
Omantel plans to cover 95% of Oman's population with broadband.

Omantel, Oman's incumbent telecom operator, has confirmed that its LTE network, which was launched in July 2012, now covers 37 wilayats or provinces across 11 governorates in the Sultanate including most inhabited areas in Muscat.

The telco said that it now has 400 sites in Oman with LTE coverage.

"Our build follows the plans, and we are proud to announce that our 4G LTE network is now covering areas in the governorates of Muscat, South and North Batinah, Dhofar, Musandam, Buraimi, Dhahirah, Dakilyiah, South and North Sharqiyah, and Wusta," said Abdullah al Hamer, general manager, network planning design, Omantel.

He added that, in preparation for the Khareef festival, Omantel had also deployed LTE in "many areas" in Salalah.
