Security appliances vendor WatchGuard Technologies has announced the opening of its new office in the Middle East region, located in Dubai Internet City.

The vendor has also revealed the appointment of former GFI Software regional director, John Spoor as its new regional manager for the Middle East business.

WatchGuard says it has identified the region as a key growth market for the company, and has invested further in marketing and training programmes to help support and expand its channel presence in the region.

"The growth we've experienced over the last few months makes it evident that more customers are looking to WatchGuard to safeguard their networks against today's blended threats," said Richard Barber, chief financial officer at WatchGuard Technologies. "We have completely revamped our core product offering in just over a year and there is more to come."

Spoor has over seven years IT experience working in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region.

"Enabling our channel partners and providing them all the necessary tools and support will be a key focus for us for the coming months," said Spoor."The new office will allow us to be closer to our channel partners and their customers, as well as give us a stronger local presence that will ultimately infuse confidence throughout the whole channel ecosystem."

WatchGuard saw a year-on-year increase in sales across customers of all sizes, with its product and attached service billings for mid-sized companies posting a 24% growth in Q1, 2013 compared to the period in 2012.
