Etisalat Misr announces Intel-based smartphone
Etisalat-branded Android handset said to be first for Intel in Middle East
Intel Corporation and Etisalat Misr have announced the launch of the Middle East's first smartphone with Intel Inside, the new Etisalat E-20.
The E-20 is targeted at the growing number of smartphone buyers in the Middle East and North Africa region, with Egypt alone recording more than 91m subscribers and a mobile penetration figure that has reached 116.94%. According to the Egyptian Ministry of Telecommunication & Information Technology (MCIT), current represents an annual growth rate of 14.19% compared with 2011.
The E-20 handset will be available at all Etisalat stores across Egypt, and is equipped with an Intel Atom Z2420 processor with Intel Hyper-Threading technology that is said to achieve speeds of up to 1.2 GHz.
"The powerful device offers consumers fast Web browsing, impressive multimedia capabilities and a great Android applications experience," Etisalat said in an emailed statement.
"The Intel Atom Z2420 processor brings Intel's classic product strengths and impressive performance to the value segment of the smartphone market. It enables a smooth and responsive user experience, which includes support for1080p HD video capture, and a camera with advanced imaging capabilities, including burst mode that allows people to capture seven pictures in a second in 5-megapixel quality."

The handset features a 3.5-inch touch-screen display, support for FM radio and an expandable memory slot. It also includes HSPA+ modem support with Intel's XMM 6265 modem for global roaming.
