AUST connects with Avaya solutions
New unified communications, LAN and data centre for Ajman University of Science and Technology
The Ajman University of Science and Technology (AUST) has selected Avaya solutions for an upgrade of its communications systems, data centre and network.
The university has rolled out Avaya's Virtual Enterprise Network Architecture (VENA) for the core of the deployment, which simplifies network design, deployment and management, while providing the resiliency and performance required to support real-time, high-bandwidth applications.
The system enables voice and video collaboration for staff and students on any device, giving better access to e-libraries, web-based classes and course materials.
The project, which has been implemented by Avaya Platinum Business Partner, Alpha Data, also includes a new data centre and campus LAN solution and an upgrade to the university's wireless network.
Key components of the Avaya Virtual Enterprise Network Architecture - ERS 8800 and ERS 5600 - have been installed which support full-featured network virtualization capabilities for campus cores and data centre applications. Avaya has also installed its high-performance ERS 4800 series, a future-ready solution well suited for the next-generation wiring closet, providing the university with 3,500 ports across its campus network. The Avaya solution is energy efficient, with lower heat dissipation and cooling costs.
Eng. Mohammed Salman, IT Department general director at Ajman University of Science and Technology commented: "AUST is one of the largest universities in the UAE, focused on embracing technologies as a key enabler for learning. We had an ageing voice infrastructure and therefore needed to move to a next-generation communications platform to support new initiatives such as e-learning and video collaboration in order to offer our students greater learning flexibility. The Avaya solution matched our vision by offering wide telephony and mobility features, interoperability, scalability and flexibility."
"AUST was in the process of moving away from the traditional classroom-based environment towards the era of open and flexible e-learning. We found that our vision of collaboration aligned with theirs, in particular our innovation in emerging technologies such as Video Collaboration. Avaya Networking is a balanced solution, and in addition to establishing a solid foundation for traditional unified communications, the network delivers a flexible infrastructure that fosters growth by enabling businesses to leverage new, emerging applications and technologies with a unique architecture providing optimum performance," said Nidal Abou-Ltaif, VP of Middle East Africa and Turkey, Avaya.
