GEMS partners with Aruba on BYOD
Education provider claims ‘sector first’ in wireless network solution
Dubai-based education company GEMS today announced a partnership with Aruba Networks to install a wireless network solution across all its schools to implement a BYOD (bring your own device) infrastructure, a move that GEMS claimed was the first such project in the region to be undertaken by an education provider.
Aruba Networks will provide GEMS Education with "reliable and scalable" wireless access for all its students and teachers, and secured Wi-Fi coverage to access school networks and the Internet.
Aruba will be using its ClearPass Access Management solution to accommodate a wide variety of devices among students and teachers, including smartphones, tablets and wireless-enabled e-readers. This solution will also help to accommodate the wireless access needs of guests visiting the schools.
"It is of utmost importance that platforms of knowledge and learning move with the times and be updated on the current and upcoming technological trends," said Hervé Marchet, group chief technology officer at GEMS Education.
"BYOD introduces more innovative and interactive methods that open up ground for more unique methods of teaching and learning in GEMS Schools, using the devices that students have constant access to these days. Hence, we need to equip our students and faculty alike to adopt and prepare for these changes that affect the ways of teaching and learning on a daily basis.
"From an organisation point of view, adopting a BYOD solution also proves to be extremely cost effective and the solutions proposed by Aruba Networks will help us to implement BYOD in GEMS Schools in an efficient manner."
"We are pleased to be part of GEMS initiative that embraces tools like Aruba ClearPass to make education more interactive and [that] takes education to the devices the students are familiar with and use even [in] their homes," said Zeeshan Hadi, territory manager for UAE at Aruba Networks.
"Aruba delivers a comprehensive solution to enable BYOD and ensures that the solution is secure and easy to use by students and employees."
