Du has announced a partnership with global interconnection and data centre experts Equinix, to deliver the first of its kind, world class, carrier neutral hub in the region.
"We are delighted in the announcement of this because this is bringing together expertise and capabilities that marry very well together. The outcome of this is that we will be able to provide data centre space to cloud providers, financial service providers and others so they can provide all kinds of capabilities from co-location, to being able to have the right connectivity with a complete carrier neutral approach, to being able to have additional value added services that can benefit from a free zone approach," said Osman Sultan CEO du.
Equinix has acquired a newly built 44,000 square foot, 650 cabinet data centre in Dubai to support the partnership with du. Equinix will operate this new International Business Exchange data centre and the first phase of this is expected to be open by January 1st 2013.
Equinix expects to invest approximately $40 million for the acquisition, upgrade and future expansion of this site.
"We see Dubai and the UAE as a key business gateway and are excited to open a new data centre in the area to help facilitate growth," said Eric Schwartz, president, Equinix EMEA. "Many companies are looking to expand their operations into and out of the area, and we will be working with du to provide the connectivity and services they require to succeed."
Additionally, du created the recently announced datamena brand, and also expects to invest an $40 million to further grow the datamena platform and service portfolio over time. datamena constitutes a transit zone, which allows international customers to host and distribute content, and to trade data capacity in a cost effective way. datamena services will only be available in the data centres in the alliance. Along with investments in the datamena hub, du has also secured the capability to offer its enterprise customers du managed data centre services and data center capacity.
