The Tokyo court ruled Samsung had not infringed on Apple patents.

Samsung has won a court victory against Apple in Japan.

A Tokyo court ruled that Samsung had not infringed on an Apple patent related to synchronising mobile devices and computers.

The companies are taking legal action against each other in courts around the world over patent infringement, mainly related to Apple's iPhone.

In a statement after the verdict in Tokyo, Samsung said: "We welcome the court's decision, which confirmed our long-held position that our products do not infringe Apple's intellectual property."

In Seoul, Samsung shares were up 0.7% in a flat market.
