Etisalat Nigeria selects managed services partner
US-based microwave specialist to provide suite of managed services
Etisalat Nigeria has hired Aviat Networks, a US-based microwave network specialist, to manage the bulk of its enterprise data network.
Aviat will establish a network operations centre (NOC) to operate 50 hops of Etisalat's enterprise data network. The NOC will consist of 100 radio units of Aviat's Eclipse Packet Node microwave networking solution.
Aviat will also implement ProVision, its network carrier-class element management system designed for total network surveillance, fault escalation and reporting with up to six months of performance data stored for analysis.
The vendor will also deploy its Comprehensive Spares Management Program (SMP) for the quick replacement of mission-critical components in the field.
Aviat and Etisalat Nigeria's operations team will jointly set up the NOC at the telco's headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria. The NOC will be capable of 24/7 network self-management, with Aviat-trained personnel working from a central site, co-located within its data centre.
"This will be Aviat Networks' first managed network services SLA with Etisalat of the United Arab Emirates, one of the largest mobile telecommunications company in the Middle East and North Africa region," said Olawale Osimosu, country director of Aviat Networks, Nigeria. "Aviat Networks' managed network services are designed to give Etisalat a cost-optimised solution by leveraging its existing staff in Nigeria and resulting in a better network quality of service for its end users."
In Nigeria, Etisalat competes with numerous mobile operators including MTN Nigeria, Glo Mobile, Bharti Airtel, Visafone, and M-Tel.
