Tandberg increases capacity of RDX cartridges
New 1.5TB data cartridges improve capacity for storage solutions
Tandberg Data is set to release new 1.5TB RDX data cartridges, the highest capacity RDX cartridges available.
The new cartridge has 50% more native storage than existing cartridges.
RDX cartridges are intended to offer a disk-based alternative to tape, with integrated cartridges holding either SATA hard disk drives or solid state drives, in a ruggedized housing. Tandberg owns the technology for RDX.
By using the new cartridges, users can increase the native capacity of Tandberg Data's 2U configuration RDX QuikStation from 8TB to 12TB.
"With this latest announcement, Tandberg Data once again advances RDX technology to meet the ever-growing storage requirements of customers who need reliable, affordable and simple data protection for their organizations," said Elisabeth Harth, global business unit director for Tandberg Data. "The 1.5TB RDX data cartridge, used in conjunction with AccuGuard, Tandberg Data's powerful backup and deduplication software, permits users to store up to 30TB of compressed data on a single pocket-size cartridge."
"Customers in data-intensive industries, such as medical imaging, legal, graphic design, video surveillance, data mining and cloud storage, will find the extra storage capacity particularly appealing," said Andrew Martin, vice president, APJ & Middle East, Tandberg Data. "What's more, the RDX technology's forward and backward compatibility enables users to preserve their technology investment because the new RDX cartridge and all previous and future data cartridges will work in all RDX docks."
The new cartridges are due to be available in September 2012 through Tandberg Data's established channel partners.
