Du outlines SIM re-registration process
Du says it will soon open procedures for re-registering SIM cards
Telecoms operator Du has said that it will soon open the processes for users to register their mobile SIM cards.
The UAE Telecommunications Regulatory Authority has mandated that all SIM cards in the UAE need to be re-registered within the next 18 months. The ‘My Number, My Identity' re-registration campaign is intended to update records of mobile subscribers, so that registered users can be held accountable for any misuse of the mobile.
There are around 12.4 million mobile subscriptions in the UAE.
Du says that it will contact customers individually via SMS to invite them to re-register. Users must then visit any one of 250 du locations to register the SIM. Individual's will need to present a valid Emirates ID, GCC ID or passport to re-register.
"This regulatory step is highly commendable, and we fully support the TRA for its efforts to protect customer interest and enhance customer experience. We are working proactively with agencies to automate the process, further simplifying the registration process. We have taken every measure to make the registration process for SIM cards as simple as possible for our customers, so that they can enjoy a smooth, hassle-free registration no matter where they are in the UAE," said Farid Faraidooni, chief commercial officer, du. "I would like to encourage all our customers to register in accordance to the schedule set for them, which will be communicated via SMS, to avoid any inconvenience of disconnection."
