Allied Telesis launches new expansion modules
New Dual 10G Ethernet modules are designed for the x900 Series and SwitchBlade x908 switches
Secure IP/Ethernet switching solutions company Allied Telesis has launched the AT-XEM-2XS SFP+ and AT-XEM-2XT Dual 10G Ethernet expansion modules for the x900 Series and SwitchBlade x908 switches.
The expansion modules are designed to complement the existing XEM series of expansion modules, maintaining the same levels of functionality and resilience while offering customers the choice between a fibre transceiver and a low cost copper version based on a twinax cable with the XEM-2XS. The range is ideal for customers who have a legacy network based on copper cabling who wish to invest in new equipment without upgrading the entire network.
"The AT-XEM-2XS and AT-XEM-2XT dual port modules offer significant enhancements to our popular x900 series and SBx908 switches and is designed with our customers' needs in mind. Allied Telesis is committed to providing competitively priced networking solutions that provide long term cost savings, flexibility, resiliency and high standard performance," said Melvyn Wray, senior VP of product marketing EMEA at Allied Telesis.
Compared to the XFP based XEM, which only supports fibre optic transceivers, the SFP+ XEM supports both fibre optic and twinax copper, the latter brings about cost savings, significant reductions in power consumption and lower latency.
The AT-XEM-2XS SFP+ module, used with a twinax copper cable such as the AT-SP10TW1, AT-SP10TW3 or AT-SP10TW7) give a cable distance of 1, 3, 7m respectively. For longer distances, the AT-XEM-2XS or SFP+ fiber transceiver allows for distances over 7m.
For medium range distances, the AT-XEM-2XT module, copper connections can be made over high quality UTP cable up to 100m. While the twinax connector has limited cable length, 10G links can be used to connect to high performance switches or as inter-switch links to overcome this issue.
An additional benefit of the AT-XEM range is that it allows more connectors to be physically mounted in a small space and all future Allied Telesis Gigabit products will be based on SFP+.
The AT-XEM-2XS and AT-XEM-2XT are now available across Europe & Middle East.
