Nintendo’s 3DS bulks up
The 3DS XL has a 4.88-inch top screen and 4.18-inch bottom screen; it will be available in Japan on July 28
Nintendo will be coming out with a larger 3DS handheld console next month that will have a 4.88-inch 3D stereoscopic top screen and a 4.18-inch bottom screen.
The 3DS XL will be released in Japan only initially, after which it will be launched in the US and hopefully then trickle down to the Middle East.
The new gaming console will have a longer battery life and will be available in white, silver, black and red.
The original 3DS was released in March 2011 and suffered an initial bout of poor sales. Nintendo then decided to cut the price from $249.99 to $169.99 in August 2011. This resulted in a sudden surge in sales and by March 2012, the 3DS had sold 4.5 million units worldwide.
The 3DS XL will be launched on July 28 in Japan for $235, and will reach the US on August 19 for $199.
