BlackBerry smartphone users can upgrade their OS to 7.1 while they shop this summer.

BlackBerry smartphone users in the UAE will be given the opportunity to upgrade to the BlackBerry OS 7.1 this summer, while they shop at malls in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

The upgrade process will take 30 minutes and is free of charge, customers can borrow a ‘courtesy' full-touch BlackBerry smartphone, together with a SIM card, to allow them to continue shopping and stay connected to friends and family while they wait.

The OS upgrade is designed to allow users to share information and content by tapping their NFC-enabled BlackBerry smartphone against another NFC-enabled BlackBerry smartphone.

The new OS also allows users to instantly invite a friend to BBM, exchange contact information, documents, URLs, photos and other multimedia content via NFC.

OS 7.1's enhanced Universal Search function, which uses auto-suggest and intelligently filters Bing search results, is designed to offer users a variety of relevant web sites based on their search terms. The update also features an updated BlackBerry Messenger app, which has new emoticons, animated avatars and the ability to customise chat bubble colours.
