Y1B was launched on April 24.

Yahsat has announced that it has successfully launched its second satellite - Y1B, at the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. The launch took place on April 24th at 2:18 am Abu Dhabi time.

Y1B has a 15-year design lifetime and is equipped with a commercial multi-beam Ka-band payload which can be used to provide government and commercial applications.

The satellite will also enable ‘YahClick', a new affordable satellite broadband service for the Middle East, Africa, and South West Asia. Yahsat has partnerships across 28 countries within the regional geography. These partners have been selected to ensure that the "YahClick" service will be reliably and effectively marketed, installed and supported for customers. Yahsat also wants to bring ‘YahClick' service to homes, schools and businesses throughout the region.

Commenting on the successful launch of Y1B, Jassem Mohamed Al Zaabi, Yahsat vice chairman, Mubadala ICT Director said: "The successful launch of Yahsat 's Y1B satellite reaffirms Abu Dhabi's commitment to growing and developing the ICT sector across the region. We believe technology has the ability to change the way we live and work - by pushing the boundaries of technological development we can enhance communities' lives."

Y1B weighs more than 6,000 kg and has a spacecraft power of 14kW.
