Three million new iPads sold on launch weekend
Sales of new iPad outstrip previous models, no Middle East launch date yet
Apple has sold three million of its ‘new iPad' since its launch last Friday.
The launch weekend sales beat previous launch weekends for earlier iPads, and put the new iPad close to iPhone 4S, which sold 4 million units during its launch weekend.
The new iPad went on sales in a number of countries in Europe, as well as the US, Canada Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia and Puerto Rico.
A second round of launches is set for this coming Friday, 23rd March, although no official Middle East data has been set. Some stocks of the new iPad have been reaching the region through online grey market retailers, but prices are often double those of the US.
"The new iPad is a blockbuster with three million sold - the strongest iPad launch yet," said Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. "Customers are loving the incredible new features of iPad, including the stunning Retina display, and we can't wait to get it into the hands of even more customers around the world this Friday."
