Sony set to launch NFC-enabled smartphone
Xperia sola will be globally available in Q2 2012
Sony has announced the launch of its Android powered Xperia sola, which features ‘floating touch' navigation, is NFC-enabled and comes equipped with Xperia SmartTags, designed to allow consumers to change their smartphone settings and applications in an instant.
The Xperia sola phone will be available in black, white and red during the second quarter of 2012.
Sony's ‘floating touch' navigation is designed to let consumers navigate the web by hovering their finger above the screen. Once the desired link is found, it can be highlighted and gently tapped to upload the page. ‘Floating touch' will evolve with new user functionality and applications through software updates and engagement with developers.
"Xperia sola comes with the power of Sony and a sense of magic with floating touch, giving consumers a fun new way to browse the web and the latest technology to show off. The Xperia SmartTag, an out-of-the-box functionality, offers access to the latest content through the Sony Entertainment Network. The innovative feature-rich Xperia sola is perfect for consumers looking for ease of use and the best in entertainment from a smartphone," said Calum MacDougall, head of Xperia Marketing for Sony Mobile Communications.
The new smartphone is also NFC enabled and comes with two NFC Xperia SmartTags in the box. Touching an NFC Android smartphone on a SmartTag allows a pre-configured profile to be launched.
The two SmartTags included with Xperia sola can be personalised with up to 10 commands. Once out of the box, one SmartTag is ready for the living room to turn on Wi-Fi and launch Google news and weather apps, while the other for the bedroom to turn on the alarm and switch to silent mode. Xperia sola also supports NFC pairing, designed to offer greater connectivity with other NFC smartphones, applications and services through tapping the devices together.
Xperia sola features a 3.7-inch Reality Display powered by Mobile Bravia Engine, xLOUD and 3D surround sound audio technology, designed to deliver crisp and loud sound, and a 1GHz dual-core processor for super fast performance. Xperia sola also comes with fast capture to take the camera from sleep to snap in a little over a second with a single key press.
The phone will launch on the Android platform 2.3, with upgrade to Android 4.0 during summer 2012.
