Nokia has released its smallest ever smartphone, the Nokia 700, in the Middle East.

The handset, which weighs 96g, is the most compact phone in Nokia's Belle range, and Nokia says it is also the most compact smartphone in the world.

The phone packs a , a 1Ghz processor, 3.2 inch AMOLED ClearBlack display, 2GB of internal memory, optional 32GB microSD card, HD video capture and 5MP full focus camera with LED flash.

Nokia Belle increases the number of home screens from three to six providing more room to display applications and services. Live widgets now come in five different sizes, making the home screens come alive and giving users more flexibility to personalize the user experience. It also includes a pull down menu and task bar to access notifications from any of the home screens and further enhancements to the Web browsing experience.

The phone also features single-tap NFC sharing and pairing capabilities, to share content such as contacts, videos and images with other NFC devices, and to link with NFC-enabled accessories such as speakers and headsets.

"Style has a significant influence on the potential selling point of a smartphone. Being aware of this, Nokia continues to invest in the design of each handset. Nokia 700 powered by Nokia Belle operating system, with path-breaking technology in the form of ‘Just Tap' NFC, will push the boundaries for future devices in this segment," said Vithesh Reddy, general manager, Nokia Lower Gulf.

The Nokia 700 is also Nokia's most eco-friendly smartphone. It is constructed using materials such as bio-plastics, recycled plastics and recycled metals. Thanks to the AMOLED screen, ambient light sensor and power-save mode, the Nokia 700 will remain environmentally responsible throughout its life.

The phone is available in a number of colours, including cool grey, silver/white, coral red, peacock blue and purple varieties, and will cost AED 1,169.
