Etisalat Misr set to expand capacity
Egyptian telco hires ZTE to boost mobile broadband capacity
Egypt's Etisalat Misr has hired Chinese vendor ZTE to expand its mobile broadband network.
The contract is the second phase of Etisalat Misr's wireless network expansion plan covering the supply, installation and implementation of SDR UMTS equipment and BSS solutions.
Etisalat Misr and ZTE expect the agreement to expand to cover further infrastructure development as the year progresses. The two companies have also agreed to extend cooperation in other areas including microwave transmission, core networks, power solutions and value added services.
Etisalat Misr, which is part of the UAE's Etisalat Group, launched as Egypt's third mobile operator in 2006 and was the first company in Africa to introduce HSPA + technology in 2009.
Etisalat Misr competes with Vodafone Egypt and Mobinil.
