HP launches new 3D printer
HP Topshot Laserjet Pro M275 prints 3D objects in 2D, is aimed at home, SMB use
HP has launched its first 3D to 2D printer in the UAE. The HP Topshot Laserjet Pro M275 is designed to capture small 3D objects, such as an apple or pieces of jewellery and convert them into a realistic 2D print.
The printer is aimed at small and micro businesses, to allow them to create, for example promotional materials and presentations of their products.
"Today we introduce another great milestone in printing technology, the 3D printer. The printer has a camera on top and takes six pictures of the object, then processes those images, clubs them together and prints an image on paper," said Amin Mortazavi, general manager of HP Printing and Imaging Group Middle East.
The printer is designed to allow small businesses to print their shop merchandise items, such as jewellery or cards, without having to pay the expense of a photoshoot.
The printer also uses HPs e-print system, so it can be accessed from a smartphone or tablet device on the move, and prints the necessary documents. The system alerts users to when a document has been printed successfully.
The scanned 3D images can also be stored digitally and uploaded to the web, for example for a company's website, social networking pages or online shopping store.
The Topshot printer is also capable of printing and scanning normally in 2D.
The HP Topshot Laserjet Pro M275 is currently available in selected electronics retailers in the UAE for AED1,499.
