Asbis signed as OCZ distributor for Middle East
Distribution deal will see Asbis supply solid state drives to the channel
Specialist components distributor, Asbis Middle East has signed a sole distribution deal with US-based OCZ Technology, a global provider of solid-state drives (SSD).
The partnership will see Asbis supply the Middle East channel with the entire range of OCZ's high-performance SSDs designed and manufactured specifically for the enterprise, consumer and OEM needs.
OCZ has built on its expertise in high-speed memory to become a dominant player in the manufacturing and distribution of SSDs, a disruptive, game-changing technology that is replacing traditional rotating magnetic hard disk drives (HDDs).
SSDs are faster, more reliable, run cooler and use significantly less power than HDDs used in the majority of computers today. In addition, OCZ also offers high performance components for computing devices and systems, including enterprise class power management products and industrial power accessories.
According to Asbis, the deal complements its existing range of hard disk drives offerings and opens up new opportunities for the company and channel partners to explore business prospects in the fast grow SSD market in the Middle East.
Hesham Tantawi, vice president, Middle East, Turkey and Africa (META) at Asbis, said OCZ is a leading brand in the SSD space and the company is delighted to have clinched this deal as these solutions will offer better margins for resellers in the region.
Tantawi said as margins have been in decline in the components space, it is vital that the company supplies resellers with solutions that earn them better margins. "To remain competitive in today's marketplace, the technology we provide to our channel partners needs to have the competitive advantage," he said. "We believe in OCZ, we have on board a brand that will help us to grow our business and presence in the SSD sector," he said.
Tantawi said the addition of OCZ's products will not only harmonise the current product array, but will also strengthen the company's offerings and help channel partners to offset some of the challenges they have been experiencing as a result of declining margins especially in the components segment.
