du to block fake handsets from 1st January 2012

du will begin blocking unauthorised mobile devices with fake IMEI numbers from 1st January 2012.
The company said that it has run a successful SMS campaign, which alerted users of fake mobiles that their handset was unauthorised, which saw the number of fake mobiles on the du network reduced from 57,338 identified false IMEI's, to a total 17,797 identified devices with unauthorised IMEIs. Of the remaining 17,797 fake mobile devices, 17,095 are owned by individual customers and 702 by enterprise customers.
