du has reported that one of the two cables cut earlier this week has been fixed, while the other will take one to two weeks to fix.

du has announced that one of the submarine cables that were cut earlier this week has been repaired and full connectivity was restored on 26th Dec 2011 at 21:00 UAE time.

Repairs to the second cable are likely to take one or two more weeks according to the cable operators. According to du, the cable operators have not disclosed how the submarine cables were cut.

The cable cuts caused some capacity reduction, according to du, but the reduction was within the set thresholds.

"We confirm once again that there is no impact on internet usage and quality since the issue has been fully contained. We also did not receive any complaints by our customers on degradation of internet speeds experienced as a result of the recent cable cuts," du said in a statement.
