du has warned of slow internet speeds as two submarine cables are cut.

Two of du's submarine cables have been cut and the company has warned that this may affect internet speeds in the region.

"We are issuing this statement in order to alert our customers to a possible degradation of internet services as a result of two international submarine cable cuts that took place yesterday: the first is located in Suez (Egypt), on SMW3 cable and the second is located between Chennai and Singapore on i2i cable.  The cable cut may affect some internet users who may witness degradation in internet speed as we expect some slowness especially in peak times," read the statement.

Since the cuts were discovered, du has rerouted much of its traffic over multiple alternative cable systems to reduce the impact of the cable cuts. The company said that it is working with the parties involved to work towards a quick resolution to the problem.

According to du, repair processes have already started and performance is expected to go back to normal levels within the coming few days.
