Police in Saudi have arrested a hacker who attempted to blackmail four companies in the Kingdom.

The unnamed hacker reportedly targeted an IT company in Ahsa region, and accessed its email server, according to Al-Eqtisadiah newspaper.

The hacker then took data from the target company, including passwords, and account data for three other companies, which he also hacked.

A police spokesman, Lt. Col. Ziyad Al-Riqaiti, said that the attacker then attempted to blackmail the companies, threatening to reveal their data.

After receiving a complaint from one of the companies, the police conducted a ‘technical' investigation and were able to trace the hacker within 48hours, and promptly arrested him.
