Etihad Rail, the developer of the new UAE rail network, is to implement a number of SAP applications, to the building of the railway.

The 1,200km, $11.3bn rail project will connect the Emirates to Saudi Arabia in the West and Oman in the East, with the first phase due for completion by 2014.

To support the roll out of the network, SAP and HCL Technologies will carry out a two-phased deployment of SAP solutions at the Abu Dhabi headquarters. The first phase will cover back office applications, while the second will include linear asset management and enterprise asset maintenance, to cater for railway operations. The project will include core ERP elements such as finance, procurement, HR and payroll, along with e-learning and Business Objects business intelligence.
