Following three decades of continued modernisation and innovation, Gitex Technology Week will this year evolve further, showcasing new features that reflect regional and global trends.

Cyber Security @ Gitex
Running concurrently to Cyber Security @ Gitex, Gitex Technology Week will also host the first Global CyberLympics Regional Championships for the Middle East & India. Established as a not-for-profit initiative, the Global CyberLympics is the world's first international team ethical hacking championships, designed as a series of team games with both offensive and defensive security challenges.
Endorsed by Impact, the cyber security executing arm of the United Nations' specialised agency, the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), the Global CyberLympics hopes to foster stronger international cooperation on information security issues and to improve cybersecurity training and awareness across all borders. Located in Hall 1 as part of the Network & Security sector, all Cyber Security @ Gitex and Global CyberLympics Championship sessions are free to attend for all visitors and exhibitors.
Gitex Card Technology
Another first time feature for Gitex, which will reflect and drive one of the most rapidly developing ICT sectors. The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) smart cards market will reach $328.5m by 2014, with the telecommunication sector accounting for 64.4% of all smart card sales, according to market research by Frost and Sullivan. The research agency says that the strong demand for digital security is fuelling demand for smart cards.
And it is anticipated that the global smart card market will post double digit growth (CAGR around 12%) during 2011-2013, with the region growing at an annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10.8%. From widespread use in the financial services sector to mobile phone sim cards, road toll systems, national ID cards and hospital records, the use of smart card technology, be it in contact or contactless format, continues to become an essential tool of everyday life for both businesses and individuals.

Building on the hugely successful inaugural Gitex Mobile, Apps & Content World the 2011 edition returns with an even stronger and more comprehensive presence.
Gitex Mobile, Apps & Content World 2011 provides an array of opportunities to engage with the industry's top practitioners and gurus via knowledge exchange opportunities with free-to-attend open panel debates, featuring speakers from the likes of Adaptive Mobile, Etisalat, Google, Mobile Roadie, Nokia and RIM among many others.
