2011 Global Leaders Summit looks at innovation
Conference will take place on 9th October during Gitex Technology Week
Gitex Technology Week will be hosting the Global Leaders Summit on 9th October 2011. The summit will focus on ‘Innovation in Leadership' and will feature some of the ICT industry's most successful business pioneers.
Themes under discussion include the insights, strategies and technical knowhow on how innovation is the driving force behind business growth.
One of the speakers scheduled to speak at the summit, Chris Dedicoat, president EMEA of Cisco, will speak on ‘Technology Innovation as a Driver for Sustainability & Economic Growth'.
Dedicoat was appointed to a European Commission task force that aims to strengthen Europe's IT sector in 2006.
"The Middle East continues to be one of the most exciting and dynamic regions in the world and an important and strategic market for Cisco. Smart investments in information and communication technology are helping organisations to innovate, drive new business models, increase productivity and create new jobs. As new opportunities emerge in technology-based industries, governments will need to focus on developing the ICT skills of the workforce and provide greater access to capital in order to help achieve sustainable economic growth. This will be fundamental to the continued success of the region. Cisco sees significant opportunities in the Middle East and will continue to work closely with businesses and governments across the region to help them achieve their long-term goals," said Dedicoat.
Rod Beckstrom, president and CEO of the International Corporation for Assigned Names & Numbers (ICANN) will also be among the speakers.
"This year in particular is shaping-up as a transformational period for the internet. We're about to see a dramatic change in the domain name system as new generic top-level domains swing open the door to innovation - a clear theme of this year's Gitex Technology Week Global Leaders Summit," Beckstrom said. "I'm very pleased to be speaking at this year's Summit, which is a great forum for discussing innovation."
Pranav Mistry, inventor of SixthSense, a PhD candidate at MIT Media Lab and an ICT industry pioneer, is also scheduled to speak at the event.
Mistry's invention work includes the design of intelligent sticky notes that can be searched, located and can send reminders and messages, a pen that can draw in 3D, a public map that can act as the Google of the physical world; and an invisible computer mouse.
Mistry will be speaking on the topic of ‘Invisible Computing' and how, while the miniaturisation of computing devices allows us to carry computers in our pockets, our link with the physical world is diminishing.
William H Saito, an advisor to governments worldwide, venture capitalist, educator and 2011 Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum, will be presenting ‘From Science to Implementation: Approaches to Technology Innovation'.
Saito's presentation will look at a variety of approaches to technology innovation, and examine how corporate management and public policy can work together to create a controllable, sustainable environment that can reliably produce the next generation of innovative products and services.
The Gitex Global Leaders Summit will take place on the first day of Gitex Technology Week on 9th October 2011 at Sheikh Maktoum Hall, Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.
