IT security vendor Kaspersky Lab, has appointed Oman-based solution provider Overseas Business Machines (OBM) as its enterprise partner in that country.

In terms of the partnership, OBM will play a key role in providing on-ground pre-sales, technical and maintenance support to corporate customers in Oman.

With a significant presence in that country, OBM will work closely with Kaspersky Lab to develop the enterprise business by presenting Kaspersky's corporate solutions directly to the enterprise customers with networks larger than 500 nodes.

According to the security vendor, the partnership is in line with Kaspersky's focus to develop and grow its footprint in the enterprise segment in the Middle East region.

Tarek Kuzbari, managing director, Kaspersky Lab Middle East and Turkey said: "Being closer to our clients is key for our business growth and success. We believe that this partnership with OBM will strengthen Kaspersky Lab's presence in Oman, while bringing customers closer to the brand, with easier and direct access to the company's latest technologies and support experts."

He said as the company's goal is to become the number one security vendor by 2014, it's crucial that it empowers its partner network in the region by equipping them with the skills needed to develop enterprise accounts. "Our strategy is to have one or two enterprise partners per country to focus and develop this segment in the market, and during the last year we have empowered our VAD," he says. "Our focus is the enterprise sector, where we are setting up direct partnerships with channel partners to make sure we give them all the necessary support from our side."

Kuzbari added that Kaspersky Lab's focus for 2011 is to become one of the top three providers of IT security solutions globally and this partnership is in line with this vision and commitment to developing stronger security.

Mohamad Al-Bolbol, general manager, Overseas Business Machines said: "We are proud to have added a respected vendor in Kaspersky Lab to our portfolio. This new alliance reinforces our positioning in the market as an enterprise partner, providing best-of-breed technologies. Our local presence will help us understand the specific needs of our customers and provide them with faster support and response."

Apart from Oman, Kaspersky Lab is also eyeing opportunities in Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Yemen, Iraq and Saudi Arabia. Kuzbari added that the company is also evaluating candidates from its existing channel and new partners to become enterprise partners.
