Polycom announces more acquisitions, partnerships
Company is acquiring HPs video business, developing global video communications cloud
Unified communications provider Polycom and its Polycom Open Collaboration Network partners have announced several new partnerships and acquisitions that are designed to dramatically change the visual communications and UC industry.
Polycom, which recently acquired HP's video business, has now also announced that it is acquiring its visual collaboration business, including Halo products and managed services.
"Today's announcements are a powerful testament to Polycom's momentum in the industry," said Polycom CEO Andy Miller. "Polycom is leading the Unified Communications and Collaboration industry with innovative solutions that revolutionise the way people communicate, and these developments further enable the network effect that we are beginning to experience in video adoption. Through our deep partnerships with HP, Microsoft and other Polycom Open Collaboration Network Partners, we are confident that we have the right strategy in place to enable us to bring our UC Everywhere vision to life and drive broad UC adoption."
Under the agreement, Polycom will become an exclusive partner to HP for telepresence and certain video UC solutions, including both resale and internal HP deployments.
The agreement also provides for the integration of Polycom's video applications on HP's WebOS TouchPad product line.
Polycom has also announced the Open Visual Communications Consortium (OVCC), an open video exchange cloud operated in collaboration with leading service providers.
The OVCC is designed to enable visual communications beyond corporate firewalls and proprietary video platforms and allow global businesses to connect everywhere, making it easier for millions to communicate via video.
Fourteen top global service providers joined forces in OVCC to deliver B2B communication through the cloud.
Founding members of OVCC include: Airtel, AT&T, BCS Global, BT Conferencing, Cable&Wireless Worldwide, Global Crossing, Glowpoint, iFormata Communications, Masergy, Orange Business Services, PCCW Global, Telefonica, Telstra, and Verizon. These OVCC members are hoping to connect millions of users worldwide through agreements with interconnected service providers across six continents.
Polycom will provide key components of this global open video exchange cloud with Polycom UC Intelligent Core infrastructure and Polycom's broad portfolio of UC devices.
Polycom and Microsoft have now expanded their strategic partnership and extended joint development agreements on multiple fronts.
Polycom has already delivered native integration with Microsoft's Lync across Polycom's UC Intelligent Core infrastructure, telepresence family, and voice endpoints.
