Al Abbar group employs Riverbed appliances
Engineering and manufacturing firm used Steelhead appliances to improve bandwidth utilization
IT performance company, Riverbed Technology, has announced that the multi-national engineering and manufacturing firm, Al Abbar Group, has deployed Riverbed Steelhead appliances at its offices in Dubai and India.
Al Abbar hopes the new technology will increase the performance of its centralised IT infrastructure and improve employee productivity.
According to Riverbed, since the implementation of its appliances, Al Abbar's IT applications are running 30 times faster over the WAN and bandwidth utilisation has been improved by three times. File transfer times have also been reduced by three times the old rate.
Riverbed said the results of implementing the systems resulted in the download time for a 10MB document reduced from five minutes to 40 seconds.
"With our applications centralised at our data centre our employees began to complain of lengthy delays in accessing documents and files over the WAN. Users were becoming frustrated, and productivity began to suffer through lost time and money," said Manoj Gopalakrishnan Al Abbar Group's ICT manager. "We recognised that simply upgrading the bandwidth would not improve application performance over the WAN as the issue was due to file latency."
Al Abbar conducted an evaluation of various WAN options and settled on the Riverbed Steelhead appliances for its data centre and head office.
"We chose Riverbed because of its ability to accelerate all of our applications over the WAN. As a result, we've made big productivity gains with employees no longer waiting to access key applications," said Gopalakrishnan. "This has removed the frustration they were experiencing before we introduced Riverbed. You can't put a price on happy employees."
